Text Box: July 26th, 10:00 AM the models will be heading for the starting line to begin the First Annual Mississippi Bend Model Boater Paddlewheel race. This event is open to any radio controlled paddlewheel or side-wheeler, 6 or 12 volt with a maximum 07 motor.  An entry fee of $5.00 for each model entered in the race, static model’s can be entered to compete for best of show award entered at no fee.  All entries must supply their own table, trophies and or ribbons will be awarded for the race and show.  For more information contact Richard Starr at 309-738-9235.  Rules and course charts will be provided to all Captains prior to the 10:00 AM starting time.  Bring a chair, camera and a cold beverage and support you favored Captain.

MBMB Newsletter

An additional race will be held for Springer’s during this event.   Springer’s will run on the same course as the paddlewheelers at the conclusion of the paddlewheel event.   The Basic Springer specifications are very simple. The basic boat is to be 18 inches long and 8 inches wide with a flat bottom.

 The other specifications are:

A 6-volt battery shall power the motor

The propeller shall be 3 bladed and no larger than 40mm in diameter.

The rudder shall be a maximum area of 4 square inches

 

The cabin and other features on deck will be left to the discretion of the builder.

Text Box: On June 26th MBMB members were invited to spend the morning with approximately 70 youngsters enrolled in the Bettendorf Parks and Recreation summer program.  MBMB members Richard Klatt, Gary Slack, George Turnquist, Fred Lorscheider and Richard Starr displayed and operated models while answering questions from the group.  Thank you Tim Burkhead Bettendorf Parks department and for giving the Mississippi Bend Model Boaters the opportunity to share our hobby with the Summer Program group.
